Understanding Oddapy

Oddapy's architecture integrates six specialized modules through a centralized Calendar system, creating a cohesive ecosystem for personal organization. This section provides comprehensive explanations of each module's purpose and functionality, the Calendar's role as the integration hub, and the fundamental concepts that enable effective organization. Understanding these core principles—Assets, Slots, Views, and organizational structures—establishes the foundation for utilizing Oddapy's full capabilities in managing your everyday life.

What modules does Oddapy have?

Oddapy has six core modules: Goals (task management with calendar integration), Notes (secure note-taking with rich text editor), Shopping List (collaborative shopping with item tracking), Bookmarks (web link organization), Albums (cross-device photo storage), and Documents (secure file storage for important records).

What is the Goals module?

Goals helps you create, manage, and track tasks broken down into manageable steps. It supports four types: To Do (basic tasks), Routines (repeating activities), Habit Building (60-day habit formation with performance tracking), and Projects (multi-step tasks). Each task can integrate with your Calendar to reserve time blocks.

What is the Notes module?

Notes provides a secure space for capturing thoughts, ideas, and information with a built-in rich text editor. Each note is encrypted and stored in private cloud storage, organized by folders and dates. Notes work across all devices, ensuring your information is accessible whenever you need it.

What is the Shopping List module?

Shopping List creates structured, itemized lists that can be shared with family members or groups for collaborative shopping. Track item quantities, prices, and priorities. Lists can be organized by occasion (weekly groceries, events) and transformed into a shopping-optimized mode when you're at the store.

What is the Bookmarks module?

Bookmarks helps you save and organize web links (URLs) with automatic metadata extraction from webpages. Store websites, articles, blogs, videos, or any web content in organized folders. Oddapy automatically captures cover photos, titles, and descriptions when you save a link, reducing manual entry.

What is the Albums module?

Albums solves the problem of photos scattered across devices by providing centralized, cross-device photo storage. Use tagging, location metadata, and advanced search to organize photos. Unlike phone galleries that lock photos to one device, Albums makes your memories accessible from any device you use.

What is the Documents module?

Documents provides secure, encrypted storage for important files like financial records, identification papers, contracts, and confidential information. All files benefit from Oddapy's zero-knowledge encryption, ensuring sensitive documents remain protected while being accessible across all your devices.

How does the Calendar connect everything?

The Calendar is Oddapy's central integration hub. It connects all modules by allowing you to schedule assets as calendar Slots—reserve time for reading saved bookmarks, working on specific tasks, shopping trips, or reviewing documents. This Calendar-centric design ensures everything you need is available exactly when you've planned to use it.

Can I use modules independently without the Calendar?

Yes. Each module functions independently for basic organization and storage. However, Calendar integration unlocks Oddapy's full potential by connecting your content to your schedule. You decide which assets to integrate with Calendar—some content may never need scheduling, and that's perfectly fine.

What are Connection Handles?

Connection Handles are unique, time-limited codes you generate to establish connections with other Oddapy users or join groups. They replace searchable profiles, ensuring you control your discoverability. Share handles via URL or QR code—only those with your handle can connect with you.

How do Connection Handles work with collaboration?

Generate a Connection Handle from your profile, set its validity period (shorter is more secure), and share it via URL or QR code. When someone uses your handle, they're automatically added to your contacts. You can then share assets with them, add them to groups, and collaborate while maintaining complete privacy control.

What is MyDay?

MyDay displays all tasks and calendar slots due today, creating a centralized daily agenda. It shows tasks from the Goals module (including overdue items from the past 7 days) and today's calendar slots. Color-coded priorities help you focus on what matters most, and you can mark tasks complete directly from this view.

What is Explorer?

Explorer provides comprehensive, module-by-module control over your digital assets. It offers detailed management capabilities with card, waterfall, or list views, advanced filtering by tags/folders/attributes, bulk operations, and systematic organization tools. Explorer is ideal for maintenance, reorganization, and detailed asset reviews.

What are Assets in Oddapy?

Assets are any items you create in Oddapy modules—a Goal, Note, Shopping List, Bookmark, Album, or Document. Every asset shares common fields (cover photo, name, description, tags) while having module-specific fields. Assets can be shared, scheduled in Calendar, and organized using folders and tags.

What are Slots in the Calendar?

Slots are calendar events that reserve time blocks for activities. Slots can be one-time or repeating (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly). Tasks from Goals automatically create integrated slots, or you can create standalone slots by clicking directly on the Calendar. Assets from any module can be attached to slots.

What are Folders and Tags?

Folders organize assets by category (Notes, Shopping Lists, Bookmarks, and Documents require folders). Tags are keywords that label assets for filtering—unlike folders, you can apply multiple tags to a single asset. Together, they provide flexible organization across all your content.

What are the four views in Oddapy?

Oddapy offers four views: Home (social media-like feed of all assets), MyDay (today's tasks and calendar slots), Calendar (schedule view with day/week layouts), and Explorer (detailed module-by-module asset management). Each view serves a different purpose in your daily workflow.

How do Contacts and Groups work?

Contacts are Oddapy users you've connected with using Connection Handles. Groups enable collaboration by sharing assets with multiple contacts simultaneously. Create groups for families, teams, or events—members can contribute and collaborate while maintaining Oddapy's privacy-first principles.

Can I customize how Oddapy looks and works?

Yes. Customize your startup view/module (what opens when you launch Oddapy), week starting day, text size, and Filter Bar position (docked or floating). You can also organize content with card/waterfall/list views, adjust cards per row, and set sorting preferences in Explorer.
