Sharing & Collaboration

Oddapy provides powerful features for sharing and collaboration. You can easily share your assets with other users, ensuring seamless teamwork or communication. Oddapy is designed with privacy and security in mind, allowing precise control over shared content.

Sharing Assets with Contacts

You can share your assets directly to your Contacts. When you share an asset, the target contact becomes an Owner of the Asset by Share. When sharing assets, you can grant specific permissions to the recipient:

  • Edit: Allow recipients to modify asset details.
  • Delete: Allow recipients to delete the asset.
  • Share: Allow recipients to further share the asset.
  • Download: Allow recipients to download attached files.

Additionally, you can add a brief note when sharing an asset to provide context.

🚨 Important

A Owner by Share can always view the shared asset. You don't need to grant viewing permission separately when you are sharing an asset.

Sharing Assets by URL

Assets can also be chared using URL. It's a easy way to share but restrictive. Only viewing right is allowed in an asset shared using URL. The recommended target users for URL sharing are:

  • Oddapy users not in your contact list
  • Oddapy users who are not a member of the group in which your are a member

Following rules apply when you share an asset using URL:

  • Only Oddapy users can view an asset.
  • The recipient cannot edit, delete, share, or download the asset.
  • Can be marked as favorite, assigned tags, and added to calendar.
  • Recipients can remove the shared asset from their own asset list using the Asset Context Menu if no longer needed.

When the target user opens the URL, if signed in to Oddapy, becomes the Owner by Share of the asset. Owner by Share (using URL) has only the viewing permission and cannot edit, delete, share and download the asset.

📌 Important

The URL remains valid for THREE uses. It will become invalid afterwards.

Sharing Files via URL

You can store your documents in Oddapy (Documents module). There may be situation where you will need to share a file with someone who is not a Oddapy user. While sharing an asset to a non-Oddapy user is not allowed, sharing a file is possible. Following rules apply when you are sharing a file using URL:

  • Files attached to an asset can also be shared using a URL.
  • Anyone (even non-Oddapy users) can download a file shared by URL.
  • Signing in to Oddapy is not required for accessing a file shared by URL.
🚨 Important

This seems like an insecure function but we have kept it. This is particularly helpful in circumstances where you are required to share a document, but not the whole asset, to someone who is not in your contact list or is not a Oddapy user. For example, you may need to share the copy of your passport to a travel agent who is not a Oddapy user.

Storage & Sharing

When you share an asset, Oddapy doesn't duplicate the asset or consume additional storage. Instead, the App maps the asset ownership and sharing permissions. It ensures efficient use of storage. The asset and its files remain stored within the Creator Owner's storage quota.

How to Share an Asset

The sharing command ([uiicon_share]) is available in the Information Overlayer (see Content Area) and in the Asset Props. To share an asset, tap [uiicon_share] to open the Sharing Options dialog:
