Oddapy follows a privacy-first approach in everything it does. Users are not discoverable by others, meaning no one can search for your profile. Your account remains private unless you explicitly choose to connect with someone.
To connect with other Oddapy users, direct consent from the target user is required. The target user must share a Connection Handle with you, which you can use to connect with the user. Similarly, if you want to join a group, the group admin can:
- Add you to the group, or
- share a Group Joining Handle.
Understanding the Hanlde
A handle is 40 character long string meant to establish connection between two or more Oddapy users or to join a group. In its raw form, a Handle looks like this:

Features of a Handle
- Used to establish connection.
- Validity of the handle is determined by the user issuing the handle. Short lived handles are more secure.
- A Handle represents a Consent by a user to connect with another user
- For a group joining Handle, it represents the permission from the group admin to allow someone to join a group.
Types of Handles
There are two types of handles in Oddapy:
- Connection Handle: Used to connect with other Oddapy users.
- Group Joining Handle: Used to join a group.
Each user has their own connection handles, which can be managed from the Handle Manager. You can access the Handle Manager from the Preferences Menu, where all your currently active handles are listed.
Handle Manager
The Handle Manager is the central place for managing all your Oddapy connection handles. It provides a clear overview of active and expired handles, allowing users to easily create, edit, share, or delete them. The Handle Manager can be accessed as follows:

Using & Sharing Handles
Tapping on a handle will open the Handle Viewer dialog. The Handle Viewer shows The QR Code for scanning and sharing options (Email, URL, or social media messaging). Scanning the QR Code will automatically apply the handle to connect with a user or join a group.
Scanning the QR code with a mobile device's external scanner is not recommended
because it may launch Oddapy in a new session, requiring the user to log in again.
Instead, Oddapy has a built-in QR code scanner that applies the handle without logging out your
session.
