Ownership of Assets

In Oddapy, each asset has clear ownership and permission structures. This helps users securely share, collaborate, and manage their digital assets without compromising privacy or control. Oddapy identifies two types of users related to an asset:

  • Creator Owner
  • Owner by Share

Creator Owner

The Creator Owner is the user who initially creates an asset. They have complete control and authority over the asset. The Creator Owner has the following privileges:

  • Can edit asset details at any time.
  • Can lock an asset, preventing further edits by Owners by Share.
  • Can archive an asset when it's need infrequently.
  • Can delete an asset when it's no longer needed.
  • Has authority to share the asset with other Oddapy users, assigning permissions for:
    • Edit: Allow recipients to modify the asset.
    • Delete: Allow recipients to delete the asset.
    • Share: Allow recipients to further share the asset with others.
    • Download: Allow recipients to download attached files.
  • Files uploaded to an asset count towards the Creator Owner's storage quota.

Owners by Share

Oddapy assets can be shared with Contact. When sharing an asset, recipients become Owners by Share with permissions set by the sharer. The Owner by Share can access the asset based on the permissions given as described above.

A Owner by Share can only grant permissions they themselves have received. For example, if User A (creator owner) shares an asset with User B and grants Edit and Share permissions, User B can share the asset with User C with Edit permissions. If User B did not receive Delete permission from User A, User B cannot grant Delete permission to User C.

Locking an Asset

The creator owner can lock an asset at any time. Locking means:

  • The asset is no longer editable, even by an owner by share who previously had Edit permissions.
  • Locked assets can still be viewed and downloaded (if allowed) but cannot be modified or deleted by recipients.

Archiving and Deleting Assets

Only the creator owner can:

  • Archive an asset: Moves the asset out of active view, keeping the Explorer clean.
  • Deleting: Permanently removes the asset from Oddapy. This action cannot be undone.

If the asset is no longer required, the Owner by Share can remove the asset from his/her list of assets from the Asset Context Menu in the Asset Explorer.
